From Werner von Siemens and Nikola Tesla to this day
Power engineering is one of the two classical areas of electrical engineering. It deals with the production, transmission and transformation of electrical energy and is based, among other things, on the accomplishments of Werner von Siemens (invention of the generator) and Nikola Tesla (invention of alternating current).
Electrical energy is mostly generated by generators (wind, water, nuclear power, coal), but more and more by photovoltaics. To transmit the generated energy with low losses, it is stepped up and then stepped back down over several levels for the consumer.
