Communications Engineering

From James Clerk Maxwell via Heinrich Hertz to the smartphone

The second classical area of electrical engineering is communications engineering. It deals with the transmission of messages from a transmitter to the receiver. Pioneers of communications engineering are James Clerk Maxwell, who laid the theoretical foundations with the Maxwell equations, and later Heinrich Hertz, who succeeded at experimentally proving electromagnetic waves, and thereby became the founder of information transmission. These foundations led to today’s modern communications technology that makes it possible to retrieve data and Information anywhere and anytime using smartphones.
