Specified requirements for the automotive industry
ISO 26262 (functional safety) is an ISO standard for safety-related electrical/electronic systems in motor vehicles. The standard governs the development of software and hardware components in the motor vehicle, their requirements or methodologies. ISO 26262 specifies the requirement of IEC 61508 in the automotive sector. The task of a vehicle component developed according to 26262 is to recognize a dangerous situation and also to respond to it. Vehicle components that are developed according to ISO 26262 are, for example, ESP, ABS, airbags and driver assistance systems.
