Successful project management relies on a clear definition of organization structures and responsibilities and a clear terminology. Below you will find our definition of terms:
Project management Management instrument / management level to understand the technology involved and solve the project tasks using appropriate tools.
Project team At the beginning of the project, a core team is assembled and a preliminary coarse workflow plan established. The project team members form an independent organizational unit whose planning and cost structures are independent of those of the remaining organization.
Kick off meeting The kick-off meeting is the first official meeting of the project manager with his/her project team. The objective is to provide an opportunity for the project team members to get to know each other. The project manager briefs the team members on the project and ensures that they all have the same level of information.
Project workflow planning The project resources (manpower/physical resources) must be planned in such a way as to ensure compliance with the scheduled completion date. The prime production factor required for project realization is manpower. Therefore it is particularly important to identify manpower bottlenecks and take timely corrective action.
Project manual Description of the project organization, reporting system, distribution of responsibilities as well as the methods, approaches and techniques employed for planning and controlling within a project hierarchy.
Cost control The purpose of cost estimating / cost control is to determine in a structured manner the cost incurred in the course of project execution and define the cost targets to be used as a basis for cost control.
Project control Project control unites project monitoring and reporting as the key elements of project management. The purpose of project controlling is to establish an early warning system. This puts the project management in a position to identify problems and initiate timely corrective action in order not to jeopardize the project objectives.
Project progress control Project progress control is part of the project controlling process and involves the monitoring and measurement of activities, performance and results and their documentation in a project progress report. The comparison of the future-oriented TARGET values with the past-controlled ACTUAL values for the individual work packages allows the project progress to be exactly identified
Project closeout The key objectives of the project closeout are the compliance with the scheduled completion date and the documentation of the lessons learned in an appropriate form: project closeout report and documentation |
